The liturgy is celebrated in the Church. Its fruits are meant to be lived out in the Domestic Church.
Why Liturgy + Home?
The idea behind Liturgy + Home did not begin with us. It begins with the Church.
The word liturgy comes from the Greek leitourgia, meaning "a public work" or "service on behalf of the people." In the Catholic tradition, the liturgy is the public worship of the Church, where Christ continues the work of our redemption through His Church (CCC 1069-1070).
Liturgy + Home does not seek to bring the liturgy out of the Church. It helps individuals and families receive the grace of the Church's liturgical life and continue living it at home.
From the Parish into the Home
The Church's liturgy is not confined to a single hour on Sunday. The rhythm of the liturgical year shapes the mysteries of Christ into our hearts, homes, and lives.
The Catechism teaches:
"Beginning with the Easter Triduum as its source of light, the new age of the Resurrection fills the whole liturgical year with its brilliance." (CCC 1168)
As the Church celebrates the mysteries of Christ throughout the year, we are invited to enter more deeply into them. Feasts and seasons celebrated at the altar naturally overflow into the home through prayer, hospitality, beauty, and traditions that sanctify the passing of time.
The Domestic Church
From the earliest centuries of Christianity, the family has been described as the Domestic Church. The Second Vatican Council renewed this ancient understanding, and the Catechism teaches that believing families are "centers of living, radiant faith" and calls the family the Ecclesia domestica, or Domestic Church (CCC 1655).
The Catechism continues:
"The Christian home is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the family home is rightly called 'the domestic church,' a community of grace and prayer, a school of human virtues and of Christian charity." (CCC 1656)
Liturgy + Home supports that vision by helping the beauty of the Church's liturgical life become part of the daily rhythm of the home.

The prayers, traditions, recipes, artwork, and customs in each guide are carefully researched and clearly distinguished by their source.
Whenever possible, we draw from:
- Sacred Scripture
- The Catechism of the Catholic Church
- Sacred Tradition
- The writings of the Saints
- Historic Catholic customs
- Regional and cultural traditions, clearly identified as such
Our goal is not to invent new traditions but to help families rediscover and faithfully live the rich inheritance entrusted to the Church.
